ArcTanGent 2024
Hi guys, Austin here, where do I even start?
It's been a busy summer for us, one of the busiest this band's ever had. Between our day jobs (working in music, leather goods, gigging, and admin jobs), school (one of us is in law school), our families (wives, kids, real shit), friends (we love you), time for ourselves (shoutout the Overwatch crew), we managed to play 4 shows this year, 3 of which were festivals and by far the largest crowds we've ever played for. Two of them were overseas, in Belgium and in the UK. So add extensive travel to that mix, lugging around hundreds of pounds of gear across cobblestone streets (literally) and loading into massive venues to play for 35 minutes was… a lot.
But man, it was so worth it!
Over the last 12 years, playing to bigger and bigger audiences has always been a dream of mine.
A year ago though, people who know me would know that I had no idea how that would happen, or what it would take to get us there. It was this looming question in my head. Eventually though, with enough examination of it's story, it suddenly burst. It became so obvious that if I was going to do this, this was right the time and these were the right guys I would do it with.
I learned something really valuable during this summer, which was if you want to do something and you're given the opportunity, you must acknowledge it. Even if it's scary. Even if it's financially irresponsible. Even if you have to have a difficult conversation. Even if it seems impossible. It's far more important to say what you want and know that it's true than to hold it in and never express it to anyone.
So today, we're releasing a live concert film of our performance at ArcTanGent, the festival that I have dreamed of playing for about 5 years now. We filmed it on a mishmash of cameras, both cine cameras and iPhones alike. Ken, Luke, Phil, Kyle and I feel this is the strongest representation of our live show we've ever created, and I hope when you watch, you're filled with the same joy that we experienced performing it.
But that's not all…
We are also launching a Patreon.
As this band grows, we constantly talk about how to offer more to the people that really want to support us. We are always sitting on unreleased and never-before-heard or seen content… for example: show recordings dating all the way back to 2015, demos from all of our albums, cover songs, projects that went unfinished but were good ideas, new original music.
Plus, we have a wealth of knowledge of this industry that we are willing to educate people on, from music industry know-how, to navigating the world of being a gigging musician, to mixing and recording fundamentals… it's so much we could share with you all!
Our other channels never felt appropriate to share this content on. Weirdly enough, our “how-to” and gear videos do better on our own personal channels than on the band's official YouTube channel.
If you are so inclined, head to the Patreon page and check out our offerings. We're very much looking for feedback, so if you join, drop us a message about what you'd want to see from us. And if you are thinking about joining, head to the Discord and drop us a message if you think we're missing something.
Thanks for listening and reading. We hope you love the concert (watch it here). And we'll keep you updated on what's next!
